Sizing guide
W/L is a clue. The tape is evidence.
Tagged size identifies how a maker labelled the garment. It is not a promise of today’s physical dimensions.
Why the numbers differ
Vintage sizing standards changed between brands, markets and eras. Denim also shrinks, stretches, softens and can be altered. A pair marked W30 may therefore measure differently from another W30.
Compare like with like
Measure the flat waist of trousers that already fit and compare that flat number with the Pair File. Do the same for inseam, rise or leg opening when those dimensions matter to you. Do not compare a body circumference directly with a flat garment width.
What FADEWELL displays
Size uses the decoded W/L evidence where available. The Measurements table remains the practical fit reference. Denim Finder accepts one known measurement or any combination — it does not force a hidden size conversion.
