Shape guide

Read the silhouette, not one word

Fit describes room through the body and thigh. Leg shape describes what happens below it. Two pairs called “regular” can still hang very differently.

Straight

The leg keeps a relatively consistent line from thigh toward hem.

Tapered

The opening narrows toward the ankle. It can start from a slim, regular or relaxed upper block.

Slim

Less room through seat and thigh. A slim leg can be straight or tapered.

Relaxed / loose

More ease through the upper block. Check the opening to see whether it stays roomy or tapers.

Wide

A deliberately broad line through much of the leg, usually with a larger opening.

Bootcut / flared

The leg opens below the knee. Bootcut is usually subtler; flared is more pronounced.

Read the silhouette together with the flat measurements in its Pair File: the label gives the shape family, while the numbers let you compare it with a pair you already know.
